<img width="362" height="272" class="ms-rtePosition-1" alt="art1.jpg" src="/SiteAssets/SitePages/Home/art1.jpg" style="margin:5px;height:272px;font-size:16pt" /> <div><span style="font-family:papyrus">Friday, May 11<sup>th</sup> was the date of the Great River Conference Art Festival hosted by Onamia High School.  The seven schools that participated include:  Pine City, Onamia, Milaca, Mora, Braham, Rush City and Ogilvie.  Each art teacher is allowed to submit 30 artwork to represent his or her school.</span></div>
<div><span style="font-family:papyrus">Ogilvie High School was proud to receive nine awards.  Senior Tavia Holland’s piece titled “Looking Back at the Memories” won 1<sup>st</sup> place in the Black &amp; White Drawing category.  Tavia also earned 2<sup>nd</sup> place in Graphic Design for her OHS Yearbook Cover Design.</span></div>
<div><span style="font-family:papyrus">Senior Alex Edstrom’s depiction of her dog, Dixie, titled “Timeless Forest” earned 2<sup>nd</sup> place in B &amp; W Drawing.  Alex also received 2<sup>nd</sup> place in Watercolor for her abstract image of a zebra and a tiger titled “Rain in a Foreign Land”.</span></div>
<div><span style="font-family:papyrus">Junior Dylan Helmbrecht won 2<sup>nd</sup> place in the Mixed Media category for his skull and snake-themed scratchboard and junior Rena Usai received an Honorable Mention in the Color Drawing category for her flag-themed tessellation titled “A World of Rhythmic Nations”.</span></div>
<div><span style="font-family:papyrus">Senior Cody Smith took home a 3<sup>rd</sup> place in Mixed Media for his sand art project called “Tribal Ram” and an Honorable Mention in Sculpture for his pumpkin-themed ceramic piece titled “Grumpkin”.</span></div>
<div><span style="font-family:papyrus">Lastly, freshman Michelle Stahnke received an Honorable Mention in Printmaking for her birthday cake-themed triptych called “Emma’s Legacy Series”, which was inspired by her Grandmother.  </span></div>
<div><span style="font-family:papyrus">Thirty Ogilvie students went on a field trip to see this art festival in person.  Besides the fabulous student artwork on display, there were also professional artists demonstrating their craft, art college representatives on hand and a judge’s critique where the artwork was discussed.  Carl Long and Denise Morris were the judges.</span></div>

<div class="ms-rteFontSize-4 ms-rteFontFace-6"><span><strong></strong></span> <img width="355" height="254" class="ms-rtePosition-1" alt="mit.jpg" src="/SiteAssets/SitePages/Home/mit.jpg" style="margin:5px;height:266px" /><div><span style="font-size:14pt"><font face="Calibri">Forty Ogilvie 8<sup>th</sup> – 12<sup>th</sup> grade Art students went to the Minneapolis Institute of Art on May 2<sup>nd</sup>.  A generous grant from the Target Corporation covered our transportation costs (thanks Target!).  </font></span></div>
<div><span style="font-size:14pt"><font face="Calibri">Museum docents led our students on a guided tour of specific pieces created by artists we study in art class, including:  American painter of super-sized portraits Chuck Close, Spanish surrealist painter Salvador Dali, German printmaker and illustrator Albrecht Durer, British sculptor Henry Moore and American painter Georgia O’Keeffe.  Then, we had an hour to look around all 3 levels of their massive collection on our own.  </font></span></div>
<div><span style="font-size:14pt"><font face="Calibri">We observed a huge, yellow glass installation titled “Sunburst” that hangs in the museum entrance.  It resembles an exploding sun and we found out that it is made up of over 1000 pieces of blown glass.  It weighs over 3000 pounds and was created by Seattle-based glass artist Dale Chihuly.  We also had an opportunity to see the temporary exhibit of sports-themed artwork.  What a great experience!</font></span></div></div>
