Countdown to Speech Team Sub-Sections: Day Four!
speech3-23.PNG

In celebration of our speech team starting their “playoff season,” we would like to showcase their hard work! Over the course of this week, you will be invited to watch our speakers perform. Each profile includes a description of their category, piece, and role on the team. Thank you for your support!  -Coach Kelsey and Miss Carlson

Shout out to our captains! These three go above and beyond to create a positive and supportive environment, set a great example for the team, and take on responsibilities in addition to competing. We couldn’t do this without them!

Due to the seriousness of some speech topics, please read the descriptions before choosing to view the performances.

Noah Bitz - Freshman: https://youtu.be/2bgh0fWjFPo

Prose: acting out a selection from a book

“Saying No to Nick” by Bruce Coville is about the accidental death of Jeremy and how Jeremy tries to help his best friend, Nick, grieve and not blame himself for Jeremy’s death.

This is Noah’s third year on the speech team. Noah’s journey on the speech team has had many twists and turns over the last couple of years. This year he has really shown his acting range by exploring emotions and characters outside of his usual acting repertoire.

Icelynn Haines - Freshman: https://youtu.be/93-w1u0LqvY

Informative: the research paper/speech everyone dreads but these kids did it for fun! And they have pictures!

“Open World Video Games”

This is Icelynn’s third year on the speech team. Taking on a leadership role this year, Icelynn became our go-to expert on everything Informative, which put her at a bit of a disadvantage. However, in true Icelynn fashion, she has quickly caught up and has put herself in a competitive position this season.

Cordell Vogel - Senior: https://youtu.be/uJRMeG2LapI

Humorous: acting out a play, poem, or selection from a book, with the intent to make people laugh

“Resusci-Annie” by Paul Feig is about the joys of learning CPR on a dummy while being germ conscious… or just anyone during or after 2020, I guess.

This is Cordell’s fifth year on the speech team. Throughout the course of this year, Cordell has had his ups and downs; but like always, he has come out on top. We cherish the years we have spent with him and getting to be a part of who he is today both as a person and actor.
