Mock Election
Mock Election
-
This program was organized by the MN Secretary of State's Office and initiated by high school teacher, Mrs. Cekalla. After signing up our high school, she received two (2) privacy shields for voting purposes. About a week before the election, the ballot pdf file was sent to her. It was the same ballot that anyone who was voting in Ogilvie would get - including the mayoral race and city council positions. The Secretary of State's Office sends the ballot to each participating school that will be used in that area. Extra privacy screens were created with donated cardboard. The boys who helped create privacy screens were Deegan B (12), Mason F (11), Trevor L (11), and Carter M (11). Signs were ready to go so students knew which line to get into to sign in. There were three "election judges" during each of the two voting hours. During 5th hr - Zach E. (10), Landon H. (11), and Brady N. (11) signed kids in and distributed numbers (which students handed to me in order to get their ballot). 6th hour: Talen A. (10), Jonas R. (10), and Tucker B. (10). After the students were done voting, they were directed to put their ballot in the ballot box and received their "I've Voted" sticker (the sticker varied from an official "I Voted" sticker). Social Studies colleague Mike Bitz counted the ballots. Everyone was supportive of our first official mock election. Approximately 200 students voted.
Results: Donald J. Trump and JD Vance won with 89% of the votes. Kamala Harris and Tim Walz earned 12% of the vote. Three percent went to the "We The People" party and .5% to each of the following: Libertarian Party, Socialist Workers Party, Independent Party, and Write In vote.
