Foreign Exchange Students

Ogilvie High School has enjoyed having two foreign exchange students enrolled at our school this year.
Julie B. is from Germany and is in 10th grade. She arrived in September and went back to her home country last month. She was hosted by the Coleman/Sanborn family.
When asked how our school is different from her school in Germany, Julie replied by saying, "At my school, we don't own a school cafeteria. We have to bring our own food, usually you can eat it outside in the schoolyard. Our normal day in school starts at 7:50 am and ends at 1:05 pm. Higher grades (10,11,12,13) have longer days. Usually until 2:00 or 3:00 pm. However, the short school days are balanced out by a lot of homework." Julie also mentioned they don't have school sports.
Julie was a part of the OMST swim team, HS Student Council, Own It!, and also played on the basketball team.
When asked about what she likes about Ogilvie School, Julie replied, "Haha, I like that you have your own coffee shop in school! I like school sports/spirit (apart from morning training) and the way you welcome everyone."
Future plans for Julie include studying medicine at University (Salzburg/ Würzburg/Frankfurt am Main) and traveling.
Arianna M. is from Italy and is in 12th grade. She arrived in September and will leave early June. She is being hosted by the Bartel family.
When asked how our school is different from her school in Italy, Arianna replied by saying, "Here not only my tests are graded, but also my homework. You don't have oral exams and you eat your lunch at school, while in Italy I finish school at 1:30 pm and then I eat at home. You have sport events, a choir and a band. I don't have as many extra curricular activities. You have a coffee shops and chromebooks."
Arianna has been a part of the HS Student Council, Own It!, and has been playing on the basketball team.
When asked about a fun experience at Ogilvie School, Arianna replied, "I really enjoyed the Homecoming Week."
Future plans for Arianna include going to University to study Economics, finding a job she enjoys, making a good amount of money, and living in Europe.
The Food Service staff worked with each student to create a lunch that represented their home countries. Julie's "German meal" was served to students in January and included schnitzel. Arianna's "Italian meal" was served to students in February and included cannoli cheesecake. Everyone enjoyed their meals!
Outside of school, both girls have gone to the Mall of America with their host families, as well as trips to Florida.
Ogilvie Public Schools is thankful for having these students at our school this year!
